2016 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Taylor Decker, LT, Ohio State

Continuing with the offensive tackle position we look at another player who almost entered the NFL Draft last year, but opted to remain at Ohio St. Here are my notes:

Taylor Decker. 6’8. 315 lbs. LT. Ohio St.

The Positives

1) Great NFL size

2) Uses good footwork to get in blocking position

3) Is a physical blocker

4) Uses his hands well at point of attack

The Negatives

1) Not a very flexible tackle. (stiff hips)

2) Struggles against speed rushers

3) Needs to improve pad level to take advantage of his power

Taylor Decker is a prototypical sized offensive tackle standing at 6’8 and weighing 315 lbs. He started playing right tackle and has since been moved to the left side. Decker is a physical blocker who has the ability to win his block and get to the next level to make another. He uses good footwork to get in position to make the block, and makes good use of his hands at the point of attack. Decker does lack flexibility and has “stiff hips”, he does struggle against speed rushers, and because he needs to play with a better pad level he at times will get beat by a bull rush.

It is my belief that because of his size he will get a good look from NFL scouts and GM’s, but he does need to work on his weaknesses and have a good season in order to be a high draft pick.
