2016 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Chris Gallon, WR, Bowling Green

By Lijah Spencer (@tweaked74)

Tonight we take a look at a player who has a lot of questions surrounding him this season. Will he transfer to Michigan? Can he stay healthy? As always these notes are based off from previous year’s film, and will precede the full report which will come later this season. Here are my notes:

Chris Gallon. 6’4. 229 Lbs. WR. Bowling Green. (Senior)

The Positives

1) Has the prototypical NFL size

2) Shows the ability to break some tackles

3) Has good hands

The Negatives

1) Has ok speed, but not gamebreaking speed

2) Route running is just ok, needs to be improved.

3) Must improve his run blocking to play at the next level

4) Injury history

Chris Gallon started his college career with such promise, catching 54 passes for 720 yards and 6 TD’s, but then things started to go awry. Gallon has ideal NFL size standing at 6’4 and weighing 229 Lbs. He has good hands and has shown the ability to break tackles. However he has torn his ACL not once but twice, derailing his progression as a player. His routes are a bit lazy, they need to be run with more suddenness and crispness, and his speed is ok but he is not a burner. His run blocking also is a bit lackluster and will have to be improved if he wants to play at the NFL level. After his freshman year he was thought of as a possible mid-round pick, after the two ACL’s he likely could go undrafted. There were some rumors that he may transfer to Michigan, but that hasn’t happened to this point. If Gallon can come back healthy from those ACL injuries and if he can improve his technique and play at a high level, he may raise his draft stock some, he has the size and the tools to be able to contribute. But at this point he would be a developmental pick at best.
