Ron Rivera was a stud for the Chicago Bears, and probably still has a love deep down inside for his former team.  That love was ignited yesterday when the Panthers head coach found out that the Bears were dangling defensive end Jared Allen out there in a trade.

Panthers HC Ron Rivera said that they moved quickly to get a deal in place with the Bears for DE Jared Allen, once they became aware of the fact that he was available.

“We didn’t want to wait when we found out there was an opportunity,” Rivera said, via Bill Voth of Black and Blue Review. “[Allen’s] a pass-rushing specialist. He plays the run very well; he’s a physical guy. He’s got good size, good hand strength, he rushes with violence, he doesn’t just sit there and work one way or the other. He’s got counter moves. We watched a lot of tape on him today to make sure this could potentially be a fit for us.”

This was an amazing move for the Panthers who lost Greg Hardy this year.  Allen has big time/Hall of Fame Numbers, so it will be interesting to see how much better the Panthers defense is with Allen.

Defensive end Jared Allen passed his physical and officially is a member of the Panthers.

“Jared Allen is a proven pass rusher in this league, and when you have a chance to add a quality player to your roster you must take advantage of the opportunity,” general manager Dave Gettleman said in a statement. “Jared fits us very well and we are excited to add him to our roster.”
