NFL would give Chargers 200 million dollars if they tried to build a stadium in San Diego
The NFL would likely contribute $200 million toward a new Chargers stadium in San Diego, an executive with the commissioner’s office told the mayor’s task force during a phone conversation Tuesday, according to UT-San Diego.
Stadium task force chairman Adam Day stated it was one of many things they discussed on the phone this week. The conference call with NFL Executive Vice President Eric Grubman was a prelude to an in-person meeting that is scheduled for next Tuesday when he will meet with a smaller group of members.
“He confirmed what we’ve heard before, that the league is probably good for around $200 million and that we could use that in the development of our financing plan,” Day said. “But that’s dependent on all the other parts coming together.”
It sounds like the NFL is willing to help keep the Chargers in San Diego. This is great news for the Chargers fanbase.
