Football is about giving back, what is the coolest thing you have done off the field?


I was a board member of an event called Santa’s Helpers where we organize and deliver toys to over 500 kids across the projects of Winston Salem, NC. The athletes would dress up as Santa Claus and actually go to their homes and deliver their presents to them. I got to be a Santa for 3 years and it was amazing just to see the kids’ excitement as they open the door or see Santa through the window.

Who is your role model, and why?


Jesus Christ because he was the perfect leader, the perfect man, and lived the perfect life. He also impacted those around Him and changed their lives forever as well as changing the world forever. He is my inspiration and I try to live my life in a way that honors Him.

Did you play any other sports growing up?


Basketball, Baseball, Track

Did you play any other positions in football?


Running back, Inside Linebacker, Corner, and Slot Receiver in High School.

At your position, what separates you from others?


My physicality as a safety as well as my capability to play both in the box as a strong safety and deep as a free safety. I also am a student of the game and I am the hardest worker on the field, which allows me to recognize plays faster and hustle to make plays down the field.


When you are breaking down film, what do you look for?

When I study film, I focus on personnel and both formation and situational tendencies. I look at the players and find out what type of player they are and their strengths and weaknesses. I also pay close attention to formations and figure out what teams like to do out of certain formations as well as different situations in the game. During film, I envision how I would react to my opponent’s plays and the best way to defend them.

Who was the toughest player you ever faced?

Andre Williams, Boston College

If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be and why?

I would compare myself to Earl Thomas because he is an all around safety that can both tackle and cover. If you watch Earl on film, you will never see him take a play off. He makes every single one of his reps count and is always flying to the football. He is also a great leader and a student of the game as well as a hard worker and someone who loves the game of football. These qualities define me, and the way I play. I am a student of the game that never takes plays off and always try to make each play count. I am a hustle player and do my best to lead others around me.

What was the biggest obstacle in your life you had to overcome, and how did you overcome it?


The biggest obstacle I had to overcome was my parents separating when I was away in college. I was able to overcome this by realizing that God had a plan for my life and that He would never let me down and I could always trust that He would meet my needs. I learned that I could not let the wrong choices of other people affect the way I live my life or allow them to take my focus off the goals I have set to accomplish.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?


I read one of my favorite passages of scripture right before we leave the hotel to head to the stadium, Phil.4:6-7 “ 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
I listen to Renegades by X-ambassadors as I pull up to each stadium and come off the bus and I walk across the whole field and back before going in to change for the game.

What is your biggest strength?


I am an aggressive, disciplined safety and a student of the game

What is your biggest weakness?


I can over-analyze and over-anticipate the game instead of letting the game come to me.

If I were a GM and gave you a second to sell yourself, what would you say?

As a safety, I am a leader and have the drive and discipline to come in each and every day to better myself. When I am on the field, I am one of the most productive players and have the mindset that I will make every play. I pay attention to the little details of the game and I have the physical, mental, and personal attributes that will give me success in the NFL. I do the little things right and call others to a higher standard on and off the field.

Who was your favorite player and/or NFL team growing up?

Ed Reed and Miami Dolphins

If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would you choose?

What will be the first big item you buy once you are in the NFL?
