Former Vikings Star Everson Griffen Arrested After Being Tased on the Interstate for Refusing to Comply with Troopers

Former Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl defensive end Everson Griffen has been arrested again after authorities say he refused to leave an interstate in Minneapolis early Wednesday morning.

According to reports, police received a call at approximately 2:51 a.m. regarding a man walking westbound on Interstate 394.

Minnesota State Patrol located the individual, who was later identified as Griffen, on the interstate. Authorities reportedly ordered Griffen to leave the roadway, but he allegedly refused to comply with the trooper’s commands.

The trooper ultimately deployed a Taser in an effort to take Griffen into custody.

Griffen was transported to the Hennepin County Jail and was charged with failure to obey a lawful order.

The latest incident adds to a series of legal troubles involving the former NFL star in recent years.

Griffen has previously faced charges and legal issues that included allegedly driving without an ignition interlock device, violating probation by failing to abstain from alcohol or drugs, failing to comply with random drug testing and driving at speeds reportedly reaching 130 mph in a 60-mph zone.

In July 2025, Griffen was also removed from a commercial flight following an incident involving what was described as unruly behavior.

Despite his recent legal troubles, Griffen enjoyed a highly successful NFL career.

The 38-year-old spent 12 seasons in the NFL, with the majority of his career coming with the Minnesota Vikings. He also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions.

Griffen was selected to the Pro Bowl four times and established himself as one of the most productive pass rushers of his generation.

During his NFL career, Griffen recorded 85.5 sacks, along with numerous tackles for loss and forced fumbles.

Now, the former Vikings standout faces another legal matter following his early-morning arrest in Minneapolis.

The allegations against Griffen are just that—allegations—and the charge remains pending through the legal process.
