Mississippi High School football player shot and killed after game

The Humphreys County community is mourning the death of 16-year-old JaKamryn Price, an 11th-grade student and football player at Humphreys County High School.
Price died after leaving the school’s football game in Belzoni on Friday, Aug. 21. The only details surrounding the death are that Price was shot and killed.
The tragedy has left students, teammates, coaches, teachers and families across the Humphreys County School District grieving.
In a statement released Saturday, the school district expressed its condolences to Price’s family and everyone affected by his death. The district also announced that additional grief counseling and support services would be available to students and staff as they work through the loss.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Stanley K. Ellis asked the community to keep Price’s family, loved ones, teammates and the entire Humphreys County High School community in their thoughts during this difficult time.
The circumstances surrounding Price’s death remain under investigation, and officials have not released further information.
For the Humphreys County High School football program, Friday night’s game has become a heartbreaking reminder that behind every jersey is a young person with family, friends and a community that cares deeply about them.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on supporting Price’s family, classmates and teammates as they mourn the loss of a 16-year-old student whose life was tragically cut short.
