Towson football player held without bail on attempted murder, armed carjacking charges

A 19-year-old Towson University football player facing multiple felony charges will remain behind bars after a Baltimore County judge ordered him held without bail Monday.

Cordell Jefferson appeared in a Baltimore County courtroom near Towson University’s campus as dozens of family members, friends, former coaches and fellow football players gathered to show their support.

The courtroom was filled to capacity, with some supporters standing along the walls throughout the hearing. Jefferson’s attorney, Jessica Rubin, said the overwhelming turnout demonstrated the strong support and community surrounding her client.

“When I say that I’ve never seen someone with so much support and love and community, I truly mean it,” Rubin said following the hearing.

Jefferson is facing more than a dozen charges, including attempted murder, assault and armed carjacking. The charges stem from a shooting and alleged carjacking that occurred last month outside the Liberty Place Apartments in Randallstown.

Despite the serious allegations, Jefferson’s supporters filled the courtroom in a public display of solidarity as he awaits further proceedings in the case.

The judge’s decision means Jefferson will remain in custody without the option of bail while the criminal case moves forward.
