Two Young Football Players Fatally Shot in Texas Whataburger Shooting

Two young football players were tragically shot and killed early Saturday morning during a shooting at a Whataburger in Marshall, Texas, leaving their families and communities mourning an unimaginable loss.

According to authorities, Marshall Police responded to a 911 call around 1:50 a.m. reporting gunfire at the Whataburger on Victory Drive. When officers arrived, they found four people suffering from gunshot wounds. Two of the victims—20-year-old James Morrow and 18-year-old Jassiah Hill—were pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation has led to multiple arrests. On Monday, 21-year-old Jamarrio Dominique Epps was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with the shooting. Authorities had previously arrested 19-year-old Davion McDale Brown, who is facing a charge of capital murder involving multiple victims. Both suspects remain jailed at the Harrison County Jail.

Hill was a standout football player at Longview High School and had recently earned a scholarship to continue his career at William Penn University in Iowa.

“Jassiah was loved by many in our school community, and his loss is deeply felt by classmates, teammates, coaches, teachers and staff who had the privilege of knowing him,” Longview ISD said in a statement shared on Facebook. “During moments like this, words are never enough. We are holding Jassiah’s family, his friends, his teammates, and all who are hurting close in our hearts and prayers.”

Morrow, a former football player at Carthage High School, was continuing his athletic journey after transferring from Navarro College to Trinity Valley Community College.

The shooting has devastated two Texas football communities, cutting short the lives of two young men who were pursuing their dreams both on and off the field. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
