Kenneth Walker Signs 3 year deal with Kansas City

Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker has signed a 3 year $45 million max deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, $28.7 million of which is guaranteed.
The move comes after Walker had his best season since his rookie year, recording 1057 rushing yards, 5 rushing touchdowns and 4.6 yards per carry. He stepped up in a big way throughout the Seahawks championship run, recording league highs in rush attempts, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns with 65 attempts, 313 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. In his first Super Bowl appearance, he rushed for 135 yards and caught two passes for 26 yards, playing a critical part in Seattle’s Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots and earning Walker the Super Bowl MVP, making him the first running back to be named Super Bowl MVP since Terrell Davis in Super Bowl XXXII.
For the Kansas City Chiefs, the signing gives Patrick Mahomes his most talented running back in his 8 years as the starting QB. Kansas City is coming off a disappointing season where they failed to make the playoffs after going 6-11, their worst record in the Any Reid and Patrick Mahomes era. They had eighth worst rushing offense in the league and only managed 3 rushes of 20 yards or more on the season, fewer than any other team. The signing, also allows for the Chiefs to address the needs in secondary, in the draft after the departure of Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson who both went to the Rams. Kansas City’s defense was already suspect. This makes adding to the secondary and defense as a whole the Chief’s next priority.
Nonetheless, the addition of Kenneth Walker can give Kansas City’s offense that second gear needed to compete with the new contenders for the AFC West in the LA Chargers and Denver Broncos. Which will be all the more important when considering Mahomes is expected to have a long road to recovery after suffering a torn ACL and LCL in week 15 of the regular season.
