Georgia Dismisses OL Nyier Daniels After Arrest on Multiple Felony Charges

The University of Georgia dismissed offensive lineman Nyier Daniels on Monday, less than 24 hours after the sophomore was arrested on a lengthy list of criminal charges stemming from an alleged attempt to flee police north of Athens.

According to documents obtained, Daniels faces two felony counts of second-degree cruelty to children, one felony count of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and another felony related to improper window tint. He was also cited for nine misdemeanor traffic offenses, including reckless driving.

A police report obtained by the Associated Press states that Daniels had two younger siblings in the vehicle as he fled officers at speeds reportedly reaching 150 mph on Interstate 85.

He was taken into custody in Commerce, Georgia, and booked into the Jackson County Jail in Jefferson. As of Monday, his bond was set at $21,000.

Commerce Police Chief Jeff Drossman said officers initiated the pursuit after Daniels sped past a stopped patrol car at more than 100 mph in a 25 mph zone. The officer had initially pulled over Daniels’ mother, Brandi Canada Green, for running a stop sign.
