Arkansas State Football Player Arrested Following DWI Crash

An Arkansas State University football player was arrested over the weekend and faces multiple misdemeanor charges.
According to Jonesboro Police Public Information Officer Sally Smith, 22-year-old Ja’Quez Cross was taken into custody early Saturday morning after fleeing on foot from the scene of a crash.
Online jail records show Cross was booked at 3:09 a.m. on Sept. 13. He is facing charges of misdemeanor fleeing, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage under $1,000, driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, and second-degree criminal mischief.
In response to the incident, Arkansas State Athletics released a statement:
“The Arkansas State Athletics Department is aware of a matter involving football student-athlete Ja’Quez Cross that occurred early this morning, Sept. 13. The athletics department and football program are in the process of gathering all the information and will move forward appropriately once all information has been obtained.”
Cross’ status with the team has not yet been determined as the investigation continues.
