VIDEO: Florida player spits on South Florida opponent days after Jalen Carter incident

There’s playing with emotion, and then there’s crossing a line. Florida defensive tackle Brendan Bett didn’t just cross it on Saturday against South Florida — he stomped all over it.
Late in the fourth quarter, Bett was caught spitting directly in the face of Bulls offensive lineman Cole Skinner. Let’s be clear: that’s not toughness, that’s not intensity — it’s flat-out disrespectful and disgusting.
After the play, Skinner shoved Bett in response, and referees immediately threw the flags. The consequences were costly. Bett was slapped with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, ejected from the game, and handed South Florida an extra 15 yards.
To make matters worse, on the very next snap, the Bulls hit a 29-yard pass to Alvon Isaac that moved the Bulls into field goal range with less than two minutes to play. That sequence helped seal Florida’s fate.
Head coach Billy Napier didn’t sugarcoat things afterward, calling Bett’s actions “unacceptable” and pointing out that he put himself ahead of the team. And Napier’s right — spitting on an opponent is about as selfish and low as it gets on a football field. It’s not just a bad look for Bett, it’s an embarrassment for the entire Florida program.
Football is a game built on discipline, respect, and accountability. Bett’s outburst showed none of those things. Instead, he let his emotions get the better of him, disrespected his opponent in the worst way possible, and handed South Florida the momentum they needed. The Gators didn’t just lose field position on that play — they lost a little dignity, too.
