Two Women Arrested in Stabbing Death of California College Football Player Raymond Orozco
San Jose police have arrested two women in connection with the fatal stabbing of college football player Raymond Orozco, 22.
The Chabot College running back was an up-and-coming star in college football. Last season, he averaged 21 yards a game and scored one touchdown.
Orozco, a local community college athlete, was killed on July 20, 2025, at about 12:51 a.m. Officers responded to a stabbing report near 90 South 2nd Street, where they found Orozco suffering from a stab wound. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say 20-year-old Mercedes Rosales fled before police arrived. She was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder. Micaela Van, 18, was later identified as a suspect and taken into custody on suspicion of being an accessory to murder.
Authorities extended condolences to Orozco’s loved ones during this difficult time.
