Player Summary:
6’0″, 195-pound Cornerback with a slim, wiry build, impressive length, fluid lower half, and a physical play style on the boundary. Played four years at Utah State before transferring to Baylor for the 2023 season. Plays larger than his size would indicate. Appears most comfortable in press-man and off-man coverages. A strong punch enables him to dictate the tempo off the ball, and long arms allow him to stay in the receiver’s hip pocket while in bump-and-run coverage. Flexible knees and hips provide the fluidity to mirror receivers to keep them within his cushion. Can be overly handsy as receivers attempt to stem at the top of the route and sometimes allows too much separation on long-developing routes. Stays disciplined in zone coverage; Uses proficient straight-line speed to cover ground in the backend and sudden burst-to-close to break to the flats in cover 2. An opportunistic, scrappy defensive back who has a nose for the football. Former receiver with quality ball skills, sharp instincts, and acute route recognition. Tracks and judges the ball well in the air and does not hesitate to make a play on the ball. Puts himself in a position to defend contested catches and rarely gets beat at the catch point. Willing tackler who possesses high-level toughness and contact courage; Aggressive and sound tackler with a confident edge. Slight tendency to get his eyes stuck in the backfield, which hurts his positioning when asked to protect the sideline as an outside run defender. Still a plus-run defender who can tackle in space. A well-rounded skill set provides valuable position versatility at the next level. Projects best as a boundary corner but has the length, physicality, and toughness to defend Y tight ends in the slot. Improved every season at Utah State and developed into the Aggies’ most efficient and productive cornerback. Should develop into one of the top cornerbacks in the Big 12 this season in Dave Aranda’s 3-4 multiple defense.
Scheme Fit:
4-2-5 boundary corner who can also rotate at nickel
Power Statement:
Long, athletic, and hard-nosed boundary corner who uses his length and play strength to isolate receivers in man coverage. Intense competitor who is willing to come up in run support and sets the tone with an aggressive play style.
