Former Cowboys Running Back Miles Sanders Arrested on DUI Charge in Pennsylvania

Former Dallas Cowboys running back Miles Sanders was arrested in the Pittsburgh area and charged with driving under the influence, according to court records.

Sanders, 29, was charged June 8 in Churchill Borough, Pennsylvania, approximately 10 miles east of Pittsburgh. He faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and careless driving.

According to the criminal complaint, an officer discovered Sanders slumped over in the driver’s seat of a Lexus that was stopped in the middle of William Penn Highway.

Police reportedly made several attempts to wake Sanders, who was described as being “in and out of consciousness” and “extremely lethargic.” The officer said Sanders was unable to properly answer questions.

When Sanders eventually exited the vehicle, officers reported that his eyes appeared glossy and that his breath smelled of alcohol. According to the complaint, Sanders admitted that he had consumed alcohol earlier in the day.

Police said Sanders performed poorly during standardized field sobriety testing. He also reportedly tested positive for alcohol during a portable breath test before being taken into custody.

Authorities additionally reported finding a package of marijuana inside the vehicle.

Sanders is scheduled to return to court in September, according to court records. The charges remain pending, and Sanders is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Sanders entered the NFL as a second-round selection by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Penn State. He spent his first four NFL seasons in Philadelphia before signing with the Carolina Panthers in free agency.

The running back later joined the Dallas Cowboys and played for the team during the 2025 NFL season.

Prior to his NFL career, Sanders was a standout at Penn State, where he established himself as one of the nation’s top running backs.

His latest legal situation comes as the veteran running back looks toward the next chapter of his football career.
