College football prospect dead at 17 after single-vehicle car crash in Florida

The football community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old standout offensive lineman Deontavis Cooper, who tragically passed away following a car accident late Saturday night in Florida.

According to reports from WCTV, Cooper was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Leon County. Two other passengers, both 18 years old, were critically injured in the accident.

Cooper was a rising star at Thomas County Central High School in Thomasville, Georgia, where he helped lead the program to two state championships during his high school career. The talented offensive lineman had recently committed to continue his football journey at Tulane University.

The crash reportedly occurred just before 11 p.m. Saturday night. Authorities stated that the sedan Cooper was riding in traveled onto the shoulder of the roadway before striking a culvert and becoming airborne. The vehicle later collided with a telephone pole and rolled over. Cooper, who was seated in the backseat, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Sadly, Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passing leaves a tremendous void for his family, friends, teammates, coaches, and the entire Thomas County Central community. Cooper was widely respected not only for his talent on the football field, but also for the impact he made on those around him.

Prayers continue to pour in for everyone affected by the devastating tragedy, including the two young passengers who remain hospitalized in critical condition.
