Pittman’s Pocket: HBCU SWAC Championship was exciting, Shout Out Prairie View A&M

With the Celebration Bowl set for December 6th, the big question looming over the HBCU football world is simple: Who will be facing the MEAC champions? Jackson State and Prairie View were both fighting for the right to represent the SWAC on the national stage, and the storyline couldn’t be more compelling.
On one side, T.C. Taylor was looking to guide Jackson State back to Atlanta and secure back-to-back Celebration Bowl appearances, proving that the Tigers remain one of the most consistent and dominant programs in the conference. A win would have solidified Taylor’s rising coaching profile and keep JSU’s championship standard intact.
On the other side, Tremaine Jackson, in his first year as Prairie View’s head coach, has an opportunity to make a little history of his own. Leading PVAMU to a Celebration Bowl in Year One would be a signature achievement—one that would energize the program and signal a new era of competitiveness in the SWAC West.
Two coaches, two programs, one trip to Atlanta on the line, and man was it a good one!
The Prairie View A&M (PVAMU) Panthers football team won the 2025 SWAC Championship by defeating Jackson State 23-21 on December 6, 2025, securing their first title since 2009 and earning a spot in the Celebration Bowl.
This victory marked a significant moment for the program, ending a 16-year wait for another SWAC crown, and was celebrated as a major achievement, solidifying their legacy in HBCU football.
