What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I started playing organized football at 5 years old. And I would play in the front yard before that. I remember going to college football games from the time I was 9 years old. Some of my earliest memories going to high school football because my mom was the drill team director. To say I grew up with football in my blood would be an understatement.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Some of my favorite moments from my football life actually come from this past weekend. While it was obviously not the result we were looking for, the chance to play in the College Football Playoff in front of 104,000+ fan was the opportunity of a lifetime that I will cherish forever.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
I am hoping to continue my career into the NFL as a long snapper.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
If I had to spend a day with any football player at this point in my life, it would be Jon Weeks the snapper for San Francisco currently. I grew up watching him play before I even knew I was gonna be a long snapper when he was with the Texans. He is my exact kind of body type which isn’t seen much in today’s NFL. To have as much staying power in the NFL as he does is a testament to his ability as a player. I’ve studied everything he does and have watched every snap he’s had over the last 7 years.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
The family member who inspires me most is my dad. He has been very successful in his own field and to see the hard work he has put into his job has been very inspiring and aspirational.
What is your typical training routine?
My typical training routine has been very much in line with what you see with most players coming out of college. Workouts with your strength coach and then practices. Being a specialist, I often am snapping to kickers and punters off to the sides while the rest of the team is on the main field during practice.
What should we know about Jacob Graham the person?
Jacob Graham the person strives to be the most hard-working yet most under-stated person in the room. In college, my goal was to help lead the specialist room and be the most calm and level headed person in games. Being a specialist is 90% mental. I’ve been blessed to not be a very anxious person and keep the same mentality whether it’s a random Tuesday in the off season. Or a snap to tie the game in the 4th quarter of the College Football Playoff.
What stands out about your film the most?
I think what stands out most in my film is the ability to deliver an easy, catchable ball to the punter every time. I’m not the most athletic and I don’t throw the hardest/fastest football. But the punter can be relaxed back there knowing that they are not going to have to move to catch the football.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I like to attack challenges head on and step-by-step. I see little use in stressing about challenges or getting overwhelmed by what lies ahead. One of Jimbo Fisher’s big phrases that he used with us all the time when he was our coach at A&M. Was just to control what you can control. That is how I try to live my life.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A team would get a long snapper who has snapped in large meaningful games at the college level for three years. They would get someone who is calm and level-headed. Lastly, they would get someone who has had to snap and block a man at the college level (which is rare because most college teams snap and release).
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I have always loved the physical nature of football. I actually played some fullback in my early college years and in high school I played offensive line. Obviously, there is not as much physicality at my position because it’s such a protected position. But the challenging and physical nature about football is probably what I like most about it.
Who is the most underrated player you played with and why?
The most underrated player I ever played with is Caden Davis. He was a kicker at A&M and transferred to Ole Miss. He had by far the strongest leg I have ever seen and it’s not something easily repeatable. He will make a NFL team very happy when he finds a home.
