Cowboys Receiver KaVontae Turpin Arrested on Marijuana & Gun Charges

Dallas Cowboys All-Pro wide receiver and elite return specialist KaVontae Turpin, 28, was arrested early Sunday morning by the Allen Police Department and booked into Collin County Jail. He faces two misdemeanor charges:

  • Class B misdemeanor for possession of less than two ounces of marijuana
  • Class A misdemeanor for unlawful carrying of weapon

Turpin posted a total bond of $1,500 ($500 for marijuana, $1,000 for the weapon charge) and was released later that day.

What We Know So Far

  • The Allen Police Department made the arrest, but details on how or where Turpin was detained remain undisclosed.
  • Jail records confirm Turpin remained in Collin County custody until his bond was posted.
  • The Dallas Cowboys organization and the NFL have yet to issue official statements.

Turpin’s Career at a Glance

YearHighlight
2022–PresentSigned as an undrafted return specialist
2024Named First-Team All‑Pro; led league in kickoff return average (33.5 YPR).
2022 & 2024Selected to the Pro Bowl as a return specialist

Turpin has consistently stood out in special teams — his electrifying kickoff and punt returns have made him one of the league’s most dynamic players.

  • Both of Turpin’s charges are misdemeanors, not felonies. Nevertheless, the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy could still impose discipline even for misdemeanor-level offenses.
  • With training camp approaching in late July, timing could put extra pressure on both Turpin and the Cowboys if the matter isn’t resolved swiftly.
  • The team is expected to monitor the situation closely and likely allow the legal process to play out before taking further action.

Turpin’s Past Off-Field Issues

  • In 2018, during his time at TCU, Turpin was dismissed after pleading guilty to assault in a domestic violence case involving a former girlfriend.
  • That incident caused him to go undrafted in 2019, eventually leading to time in the USFL and European leagues before joining the Cowboys in 2022.
