Kyren Lacy’s attorney releases a very strong message saying criminal investigation was “gross miscarriage of justice”

Kyren Lacy, a former LSU wide receiver and NFL Draft hopeful, died by suicide on Sunday. He was 23 years old.
Lacy’s death came just one day before a grand jury was set to review potential negligent homicide and hit-and-run charges stemming from a December 2024 car accident that claimed the life of a 78-year-old former Marine.
In the wake of Lacy’s passing, his attorney, Matthew Ory, issued a strongly worded statement criticizing both the investigation and the media’s handling of the case.
“Kyren was scheduled to appear before a grand jury tomorrow, and we were confident that once all the evidence was reviewed, the charges would be declined,” Ory said via WAFB.com. “From the outset, this investigation felt less like a pursuit of justice and more like a targeted campaign — a witch hunt — driven by Kyren’s public profile.”
Ory went on to say that the Lafourche Parish District Attorney had not filed any formal charges against Lacy, despite the months-long investigation. He also pointed to what he described as a biased media narrative, referencing the widespread publication of Lacy’s mugshot and a civil lawsuit that named another individual who was never criminally charged.
“Kyren was a young man full of promise,” Ory continued. “But he was crushed by a deeply flawed and prejudiced process. There was no presumption of innocence. The NFL’s decision to remove his draft eligibility over mere allegations — without giving him a fair chance to respond — was devastating.”
Ory concluded by vowing accountability: “This is not the end. We will demand a full and transparent investigation into how this case was handled. Those responsible for this miscarriage of justice must be held accountable.”
This is such a tragic situation.
