Not so “Minny” offseason for the Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings had a memorable 2024 campaign, which ended like most of their prior promising seasons have as well. With the emergence of Sam Darnold as a surprising star player, ending up in his first Pro-Bowl appearance, another star-studded season from phenom Justin Jefferson, and a defense that proved its worth all year under Brian Flores, the Vikes ended with a 14-3 record.

Even though that record sounds impressive, and it is, they still finished 2nd in the NFC North, failing to live up to the hype against the Detroit Lions in the final regular season game. Playing in the Wildcard game against the Los Angeles Rams the following week, the Vikings, led by Sam Darnold, fumbled under pressure.

However, that’s behind them now, letting Sam Darnold go surprised many people, but the organization came out and said they are sticking with young gun J.J. McCarthy, whom they drafted from Michigan last season. Adding to their offensive arsenal, the Vikings added years of experience to their offensive line, bringing in Will Fries and Ryan Kelly from Indianapolis, and Justin Skule from Tampa Bay.

Suring up their backfield by trading for RB Jason Mason from the 49ers and re-signing Aaron Jones for another year. Adding depth to their secondary by re-singing Theo Jackson and Byron Murphy JR., restructuring Harrison Smith, and signing players like Jeff Okudah, Isaiah Rodgers and Tavierre Thomas. Finally, to top off their already impressive forefront, adding D-linemen Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Allen.

This busy free agency was necessary, beings they only 2 top round draft picks, and a handful of day 3 picks.
