What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I knew I wanted to play football at a really early age. I was a big fan of the game but I was not able to play until fifth grade just because my parents were so foreign to the sport. Once I put on the pads for the first time, I knew that football was my calling.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
My junior year of high school and my 2022 season at Fresno State really stood out. In the former, I was given an opportunity to start both ways on a Sanger High team and it was when I really broke out and started to accumulate offers. The 2022 season stands out because that’s when I won my first championship in football ever, we had an extremely talented team.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
I know that I can play at the next level and contribute to an NFL team in any way possible. I understand the importance of all phases of the game, especially special teams, a phase that many players overlook. I prepared for pro day and did what I had to so now it’s a waiting game, but I’m staying ready for my opportunity because I know I can contribute at the next level. Whether it’s defense or special teams, I’m ready to step in and make an impact.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
Todd Gurley for sure; I’ve always been a huge fan of the Rams and he was electrifying from his rookie season until we ended up releasing him. Even though we are on opposite sides of the ball, I believe that he could give me real knowledge and tell me about how he coped with some of the injuries he faced at the peak of his career.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My mom has inspired me for my entire life and will always. She is the strongest woman I know and she makes things happen, even if it comes at the expense of herself. She made sure that my siblings and I were able to be successful in whatever avenues that we wanted to venture down and I will forever be grateful for that.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
I really like playing in Cover four, especially when given a 3 x 1 set by the offense. It just allows both safeties to really disguise our looks and specifically for the backside safety, gives a lot of range and freedom to make plays. When you have a really good corner on the single-receiver side, that freedom just increases even more and as that backside safety, you are essentially a free player that can read the QB.
What should we know about Kosi Agina the person?
You should know that I am a team-first player. I will do everything that I need to do, the way it is supposed to be done. I will handle all business off the field and never give issues in that way. I am compassionate and will do whatever it takes to help the team win, even at my expense. I also want to be a physician assistant whenever I am done playing football, I want to help people feel better in their everyday lives and I also want to inspire others—especially those who look like me—to believe that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.
What stands out about your film the most?
My intelligence and athleticism stand out in my film the most. A player that executes at a high level and understands what the offense is trying to do depending on different situations of the game (P&10, two minute, red zone, etc.). I also believe that I am a great tackler who is willing to tackle the biggest or the smallest player on the field. I touched on it before, but I am an amazing special teams player who logged over 800 reps on special teams throughout my Fresno State career. I have blocked punts, made key tackles, and delivered game-changing blocks on kick return. My impact goes beyond defense; I truly embrace every phase of the game.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I think as a football player and more importantly, as a human being, it is super important to understand the ebbs and flows of life. There will always be highs and lows but just remember that eventually everything always comes back to the center. In football specifically, it has really helped me to envision making great plays and even making some bad ones before games so that I am ready to cope with it. Everyone preaches this, but you have to be able to have short-term memory when it comes to this game so that a snowball effect doesn’t occur if things are going bad.
What would a team get in a player like you?
Again, a player that will do anything to help the squad be victorious. An intelligent young man who will represent the team to the utmost standard. A player who understands the ins and outs of the game of football and will set the tone come Sunday’s. I love the game of football and I believe my energy will spread to others on the team.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I love the companionship. I’ve made so many life-long friendships through the game of football and it has just brought so much joy into my life. You succeed with your brothers and you also fail with them and it just teaches you to lean on each other through the good and the bad.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
I would say Evan Williams. He was very renowned when he was with us at Fresno State, but he is genuinely the best player that I have ever been allowed to play with or watch. His instincts and play speed as a safety are what jump off the board. I was able to learn so much about him and the way he prepared for the game just being in the same room as him. It should be no surprise to anyone the success he was able to have in his rookie season with Green Bay.
