2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Ole Miss Quarterback Jaxson Dart

Jaxson Dart has recently gained a lot of hype surrounding his draft stock in the 2025 class. While I do think he has starter upside, he is far too inconsistent for me to justify a premium draft selection. I think he is missing one trait that you can confidently bet on to aid his development and to warrant taking him in the first or even second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Dart has enough arm talent to succeed in the NFL. While he often struggles transferring his weight and throwing with touch, he has the ability to push the ball with velocity and a smooth release. Dart is a good athlete as well, he doesn’t have elite athletic traits we have grown to see in modern quarterback prospects but it is more than enough to extend plays. His accuracy is more of a strength than a weakness. He has a tendency to sail balls high over the middle of the field and lacks consistent touch and surgical accuracy down the field.
One of my concerns about his game is his pocket presence. He has a poor internal clock and bails frequently from clean pockets. He is, however, extremely willing to deliver the ball in the face of pressure, but it does come at the expense of his footwork and overall accuracy. As a decision maker, he is very inconsistent, even in a very QB friendly system at Ole Miss, there were many head scratching throws on his tape. Dart sometimes struggles to recognize his open targets, and isn’t the smoothest when working through his progressions. Dart is a solid anticipatory thrower, he still needs to learn how to manipulate defenders but he throws with good timing.
Jaxson Dart is a physically talented quarterback with enough arm talent, a smooth release, and good athleticism, but his game remains too inconsistent to warrant anything more than a “dart-throw” on day 3 for me. He has the tools to make high level reads and anticipatory throws but struggles with processing speed, pocket presence, and handling pressure. His deep ball accuracy is inconsistent, and his decision making often leads to turnover worthy plays. Ideally, he would sit and develop in a QB friendly system without the expectations that come with being a day one, or even day two pick this year. I do think he is very similar to my comparison for him, Jalen Hurts, and has a very similar path to success as a good not great athlete that can succeed in an oversimplified system that makes the most out of his traits.
