Pittman’s Pocket: Monitoring the Top Junior College Prospects Headed to HBCU’s

Here at Pittman’s Pocket and Draft Diamonds, we continue our tradition of recognizing HBCU Junior College All-Americans as another year begins.

This year promises to be significant, with a focus on junior college transfers who are expected to make an immediate impact on their HBCU football teams.

Last year marked our inaugural year with a small number of All-Americans, one of whom was Texas Southern’s MJ Hinson from Blinn Community College. Hinson, a finalist for the Aeneas Williams Award, had an outstanding junior season, amassing 33 tackles, 18 of which were solo, along with 4 interceptions, 10 pass deflections, 1 fumble recovery, and a touchdown.

We are hopeful that Hinson’s performance will catch the eye of NFL scouts and general managers in the coming year. Additionally, this development challenges NFL scouts to re-evaluate how they grade HBCU juniors, who are now eligible to be drafted in the annual NFL draft.
