What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
When I was 5 years old my dad signed me up for Pop Warner. I had always wanted to be a football player for as long as I can remember. I think mostly because my dad and I grew up watching the Jets and were able to start a connection to football through watching the NFL.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
My favorite moments from my football life are growing up playing Pop Warner, then being able to play through high school, and being blessed enough to play four years in college at the Division 1 level as well as in the NAIA. One specific memory would have to be scoring two touchdowns on homecoming during my sophomore season of college.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
Moving forward in my career I’m looking to achieve my goal of playing professionally. What that entails I hope to figure out when the time comes.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
I would want to hang out with Davante Adams. Being a Jets fan I think that’d be cool but being a receiver I think that’d be extremely beneficial. I believe Davante has revolutionized route running and I think it’d be cool to be able to pick his brain and get to know him.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
I would say both of my parents inspire me the most. Neither of them attended college, instead they decided to join the workforce. They both embody the definition of grind and have instilled in me a work ethic like no other.
What is your favorite offensive scheme and why?
Being a receiver obviously my favorite offensive scheme is gonna be the Air Raid. Being able to have the opportunity to put the ball in the air 30-40 times a game would be ideal. Playing in an offensive in college that was extremely run heavy taught me the importance of blocking on the perimeter and being a selfless teammate.
What should we know about Nicholas Scalera the person?
What you should know about me is that I love being able to compete and love the game of football. I love all aspects of the game and I’m extremely grateful that I’ve been blessed enough to play this long. I also value character and consistency, just trying to be 1% better each day.
What stands out about your film the most?
I think what stands out the most about my film is the versatility. I have clips of me playing TE as well as me playing WR.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I look to the Lord when challenges arise in my life both on and off the field. I’ve been blessed to be able to have an amazing family who has been a rock for me in my life but ultimately it is the Lord who grounds me and who I find my identity in.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A team that picks me up will get a guy who will always put the team first, someone who is coachable, and someone who plays hard.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I don’t know if I can name one thing I love most about football but if I had to choose one I would say the brotherhood and the overall connections that are made through playing the game.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
One guy who I’ve played with that was underrated I would have to say my quarterback Henry Austad. I think that he has so much potential and can really throw a great ball and I’m excited to watch his last season of college football.
