Coach Prime to the Cowboys? Three Reasons It Makes Sense

Rumors are swirling that Colorado head coach Deion Sanders may be waiting in the wings to replace Mike McCarthy as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Here are three short reasons it makes sense:
- Coach Prime would be returning to Dallas, where his Hall of Fame career spanned four seasons. Taking over as head coach would send shockwaves throughout Dallas and excite Cowboys fans, returning some much-needed buzz to an organization that hasn’t produced results lately on the field.
- Sanders has a large, 5,000-acre ranch in Texas. Returning to Dallas would help him be closer to that as well as other properties he owns in the Lone Star State. He has also signaled that he would love nothing more than for his son to be a Cowboy, which leads us to reason number three.
- Shadeur. The Cowboys hold the 12th pick of the NFL Draft and would be in prime position (no pun intended) to go after the 6-foot-2 gunslinger, even if it means trading up to get him. Coach Sanders lamented on his Amazon documentary that the 2024 season would likely be the last chance he would ever have to coach his sons. A move to Dallas could certainly change that.
While NFL coaching differs significantly from college coaching, it demands a different level of strategy, game management, and player relations, particularly with professional athletes who might not respond the same way as college players. Sanders has indicated his preference for influencing young players’ lives in college football, where he has more control over team culture. Moving to the NFL might not align with his personal or professional goals, but it will be interesting to see what happens with Coach Prime and the Cowboys.
