This weekend highlighted the strong performances of teams in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), with the North Carolina Central Eagles and Jackson State Tigers asserting their dominance in impressive victories.
Eagles Soar Over Morgan State
The North Carolina Central Eagles showcased their prowess against Morgan State, with Walker Harris completing 18 of 31 passes for 216 yards, including one touchdown and one interception. However, it was the Eagles’ powerful rushing attack that truly stole the show. J’Mari Taylor led the ground game with an impressive 26 carries for 196 yards and a touchdown, proving to be a formidable force. Additionally, wide receiver Markell Quick made significant contributions, hauling in five receptions for 96 yards and another touchdown. The Eagles’ combination of effective passing and a dominant run game propelled them to a convincing victory.
FAMU Continues Home Dominance
Florida A&M University (FAMU) continued its impressive streak at Bragg Stadium, extending its home winning streak to 22 games with a decisive 24-6 victory. Quarterback Daniel Richardson demonstrated his skill, completing 25 of 32 passes for 274 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The explosive Jamari Gassett was a key target, racking up five receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown, further solidifying FAMU’s strong home-field advantage.
Jackson State Overpowers Bethune-Cookman
Down in Daytona, Florida, the Jackson State Tigers delivered a commanding performance against Bethune-Cookman, securing a 37-17 victory. Quarterback Jacobian Morgan contributed to the offensive success with a touchdown pass for 138 yards. Running back Irv Mulligan was a standout, rushing for an impressive 171 yards. Additionally, both Isaiah Spencer and Joanes added to the scoreboard with touchdown receptions, showcasing the Tigers’ offensive depth and versatility.
