Player Summary:
Desmond Evans is a long-armed edge rusher playing in his last year of eligibility in 2024. He has an ideal build for the position with above-average get-off at the snap, using his speed to slip between blockers and push the pocket. Evans has a high motor and good drive to the ball, keeping his feet churning through the whistle. He uses very active hands and has a good arsenal of pass-rush moves, especially when coming from a wide-nine stance. Evans does play very straight up, and a lineman with good leverage can use that high pad level against him and block Evans out of the play. He plays with limited bend and is hindered by the stiffness of his hips, however, he has the overall athleticism to work around those limitations. Evans is currently on track to post his best season statistically in 2024 and hopes to parlay that into a successful jump to the next level this offseason.
Scheme Fit:
Evans would benefit from a 4-3 scheme that uses two interior guys to stuff the run, allowing him to act as a true disrupter off the edge.
Power Statement:
Desmond Evans possesses the ideal frame and speed for a developmental edge rusher at the next level. His bend and play strength needs some polishing, but Evans has the tools to be a really solid player.
