Player Summary:
Craig Woodson is a 6th year senior who has played a lot of ball for the CAL Bears. He has started 26 straight games as one of the leaders in the secondary. Woodson has an athletic build with good size. He lines up at the FS position but also has the flexibility to play SS. Woodson does a solid job in the run game showing explosiveness and filling the alley with speed. He processes quickly, plays downhill, and has a natural nose for the ball. His experience allows him to slow the game down, never looking sped up. In the run game, he does a solid job at the POA of striking and keeping his leverage, rarely out of position. In man coverage, he has ordinary speed and fluid hips, He does an adequate job in zone coverage but may struggle against bigger receivers/tight end vs Man. He has ordinary SL-to-SL range, and his over-the-top play in single and two-high coverages can be marginal at times. His playing experience and above-average FBI will allow him to play fast and put him in a position to make the right football play. Overall, Woodson plays a physical brand of ball and does a solid job in both the run and pass game, he has good COD and adequate ball skills with AA to be a solid contributor on special teams at the next level.
Scheme Fit:
FS, Cover 1, Cover 3
Power Statement:
Instinctive player who has the flexibility to play both safety positions, shows grit, plays physical and has the AA to be a special teams contributor early.
