Should the Miami Dolphins call about the availability of Bryce Young?
With the Carolina Panthers benching Bryce Young, you have to wonder what the Carolina Panthers will do with him. Can Bryce Young recover from getting benched? There are many questions about his benching, but there is one team that would be very smart to check on Young’s availability.
With Tua Tagovailoa’s injury concerns, the Dolphins could use a young back-up, and who knows what the price would be.
Let’s look at why I feel it makes a lot of sense.
The Dolphins currently have Tua Tagovailoa as their starting quarterback. When healthy, he has shown potential and had a breakout season, but after suffering his fourth major concussion last week against the Bills, there is a giant question mark in the QB room. Bryce Young is a highly touted young QB, but was recently benched for Andy Dalton. People around the league are saying the Panthers are crazy for benching him so early, but this is a new coaching staff, and I am sure they want to win now.
The Dolphins have built a strong team around Tua, with offensive weapons like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, along with an improving defense. Trading for Bryce Young would likely require giving up draft capital or assets, but with him on the bench, who knows what they would look to get.
Young is a dynamic, intelligent quarterback with a strong collegiate pedigree. However, he has struggled to develop, which could set the Dolphins back in their timeline of contending, but with Tua’s injury history, he is definitely better than Skyler Thompson.
The Dolphins have to be concerned with Tua, particularly with concussions, which may make the Dolphins consider alternatives. However, trading for Bryce Young would still be a gamble on another young, unproven QB.
Ultimately, the Dolphins should only consider trading for Bryce Young if they feel Tua cannot go on and they believe Young could be the future of the franchise. Otherwise, they may be better off sticking with Tua and continuing to build the roster around him.
What do you think? Do you think it makes sense?
