Player Summary:
Redshirt senior who played 10 games and started in 9 for Wyoming in 2023. Waylee is a transfer from Northern Illinois and has an average to below-average frame with less than ideal height and weight. He has a muscular build, and possesses ordinary straight-line speed. However, he has nice quickness in his feet and his burst through gaps and acceleration are his playing strengths. He has great acceleration, as he is able to get up to top speed in a hurry. He is able to burst through gaps and plays explosively. He has good lateral movement, as his juke moves come clean across the field to make defenders miss. He can get outside the numbers efficiently and quickly, and has good field vision to be able to see when to cut back inside. His pass protection is average, and he will often not lower his pads or sink his weight and will stand straight up without bending his knees when attempting blocks, resulting in him getting bullrushed. As a receiver, he is not often utilized, only having 12 catches in 2023 overall. When he is targeted, he has reliable hands, and is able to get down the field and up to top speed quickly. As a ball carrier, he does not shy away from contact, and will get his pads down to a good level to try and run over defenders. He doesn’t usually go down after first contact, and breaks tackles consistently. He has great toughness, both physical and mental, and he will not get rattled after a loss of yardage or a bad play. He hustles all over the field, regardless if he has the ball or not.
Scheme Fit:
RB for both power and zone schemes. Marginal three-down back.
Power Statement:
Undersized running back with impressive acceleration, burst and toughness. Plays hard and rough and doesn’t shy away from contact and hardly goes down after first contact. Makes defenders miss and was productive for the workload he was given.
