What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I would say the reason why I wanted to be a football player was because of my older brother, Kaiman Smith. Watching him when I was little play football and seeing how much fun he was having got me into the reason why I wanted to play football.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
There have been many great memories that I have made from football but the one that takes the cake would be my freshman year playing the University of Georgia as the last game of the year. We were getting killed by this time in the ball game but to stop them from scoring again I caught an interception on 3rd and a goal against Carson Beck. It was easily the most electric and exciting moment in my career so far.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My dad has inspired me the most in my lifetime with how much I idolize him every day. The sacrifices he has made and continues to make for our family are just so inspiring. He has helped me through everything imaginable and I know there is nothing in this world that I could do to repay him because of how much he has done for my brothers, my mom, and me.
What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?
The thing I am looking forward to the most this season is to become a better version of myself in every aspect of my life. Whether it’s being a better leader on the team or in my group, or getting as close to perfection as possible in my game (speed, technique, discipline, skill set, etc.).
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
I would want to hang out with Josh Norman he is someone I’ve idolized my game around and watched him a bunch growing up. He’s the reason why I have the mentality at the corner that I have now.
What are your favorite things about playing football for Samford?
Just the sense of family and pride with the program. I felt welcomed and appreciated when I came to this school and my teammates and coaches did a great job with that.
What should we know about Kamron Smith the person?
People should know that I am the hardest working person in every room with a strong Christian belief in my life. I strive to become the best version of myself not just through football and school but through the word of God and his plan for me.
What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?
I am a very well knowledgeable person about schemes and how defenses are running but my ultimate favorite scheme to run is man-free. It allows me to lock in on all of my greatest skills with length to be able to put my hands on receivers.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I handle challenges with a mindset that God put me in the situation to learn from and with this mindset, I don’t doubt or get discouraged when things get tough on or off the field.
What would a team get in a player like you?
A team will get a player who is very coachable, who knows the game and knows the game well along with a long range of skills and tools but is always willing to be a sponge and learn all new things that a team has to offer.
What stands out about your film the most?
The one thing that stands out about my film is my ability to make plays all around the field with my range of locking down receivers on the outside while keeping a firm edge in blitzing off the edge. I am a technically sound player who knows the game inside and out and knows what to read, how to read, and what to do at the snap of the ball.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Daniel Ekwese is someone I think about being underrated that I’ve played with because of his upside in performance just never been given the best opportunity with his situation. Very slept on guy for sure.
