Oregon football player charged in fatal hit-and-run claims he was being menaced by a man with a hammer
New details are coming out regarding the fatal hit-and-run incident that killed a homeless man in Oregon.
Daylen Austin the young defensive back for the Ducks reportedly hit a homeless man who was menacing him with a hammer.
Police reports claim about 15 minutes before the incident in which Austin is alleged to have struck and killed a person in Eugene, a man fitting the description of the victim, threw a “baseball-sized object” at an SUV driving down the road at the time, a vehicle that fits the description of Austin’s car.
Surveillance footage of the area found the victim crossed the street and appeared to be pointing and shouting at other cars as they passed by.
Austin was charged with a felony for failing to perform the duties of a driver when another is injured.
The 46-year-old homeless man was Frank Seaman. Officers said that Austin told them he was being chased by the man with a hammer who jumped in front of his car.
