Did the Jets try to replace Aaron Rodgers friend and Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett this off season?

Connor Hughes of SNY reports that the New York Jets made legitimate attempts to hire someone who would actually run the offensive over Nathaniel Hackett.
The way Hughes made it sound is the Jets were looking to hire someone that would have still allowed Hackett to be the coordinator but would basically have someone he would report too.
The hire was not made however, which leaves Hackett on pace to lead the Jets again. Can the Jets get the offense going? If Aaron Rodgers did not get hurt maybe it would have been different for the Jets, but it sounds like Hackett will be on a short leash.
The Jets hope that Rodgers will return to his old ways and help the Jets win the division back in 2024.
