What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I’ve loved the game of football for as long as I can remember, but honestly I loved basketball even more growing up. It wasn’t until high school when football took over as number one for me. I felt like when I was on the field I played with a different passion, and my abilities were much more of a match up problem.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
One of my favorite moments was my first career hundred yard game in college against UAB while I was at Rice. It was one of our most complete games as a team that year, and I helped play a major role in us getting the win.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
Going forward I just want the opportunity to play at the highest level, my work ethic, God given ability, mental capacity, and mental fortitude will propel me forward from there. I want to be a household name at the wide receiver position in the NFL.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
I’d want to hang out with Marvin Harrison, so I can pick his brain and soak up as much as I could from him.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My dad inspires me the most because he’s one of the hardest working people I know, and he’s always been there.
What is your favorite offensive scheme and why?
Personally I’m a fan of the West Coast system, simply because it centers around playmakers making plays by getting them the ball quickly and in space. It lets you get “drunk off the YAC.”
What should we know about August Pitre III the person?
I started my first year of law school during this past season.
What stands out about your film the most?
I know if someone were to take a look at my film they’d see a receiver who has shown the ability to be extremely versatile and dominant when given the opportunities. You’ll see a guy who can win at the release point consistently, at the top of the route, and the catch point. You’ll see a wideout that, especially in this past season, rarely gets tackled by the first guy and has a scoring mindset with the ball in hand.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
My journey has afforded me many opportunities to be faced with challenges, and with God I have made it through every time. I feel as though if it’s put in front of me it can be done. That’s my mindset no matter the setting.
What would a team get in a player like you?
Above all they are getting a person that would meet the standard and exceed it in terms of organizational expectations. They would be getting a competitor, a guy who hates to lose. They’d be getting a student of the game, who studies film and is always trying to learn from any and everyone.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I love how similar it is to life. I love the challenge of the game. There’s no time to chill in between the lines, you always have to be in attack mode. Also the way that you can get a group of guys to go to war for each other for one common goal.
Who is the most underrated player that you’ve played with and why?
I’d say that Jake Bailey is the most underrated player I’ve played with. I believe he’s one of the best slot receivers in the country.
