What will the Steelers do with Justin Fields?
The Steelers recently acquired Justin Fields from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a conditional 6th round pick. A cheap price to say the least. However, they also just got their hands on Russell Wilson, so what is the offense going to look like.
The Steelers coaching staff has already informed Russell Wilson that he would indeed be the starter for the Steelers. This means Justin Fields will likely mentor under Wilson, a veteran, until they believe he can take the reins from Wilson. Giving a young guy like Fields an opportunity to learn after a seasoned NFL veteran is something he hasn’t been given the opportunity to do yet in his career. I think Fields will benefit greatly from Wilson, as Wilson’s playstyle his first few seasons had plenty of similarities to Justin’s game now.
However, with Justin’s rushing ability, I wouldn’t rule out the choice of sending Fields in a couple plays a game to make something happen with his feet. Similar to the way the Saints use Taysom Hill.
