Former Georgia Bulldogs football player Ahkil Nasir Crumpton was sentenced to 30 years in a federal prison today.

Crumpton’s charges stem from the 2021 shooting death of a Watkinsville gas station clerk. Elijah Wood, 23, was working the overnight shift at RaceTrac in Atlanta when a masked gunman walked into the store, pointed his handgun at Wood, and pulled the trigger.

In Athens, Crumpton was a wide receiver for the University of Georgia from 2017 to 2019. He played in 24 games in his career. The gun used in the crime was found to be used in a homicide in Philadelphia as well.

The 26-year-old football player was sentenced to 30 years on interference with commerce by attempted robbery and false statement during the purchase of firearm charges in connection to the death of Elijah Wood, 23, a RaceTrac employee.

He was given 20 years for the interference charge and 10 years for the false statement charge.

Crumpton is still facing state charges for murder and others in Wood’s death.
