Player Summary:
Eyabi Okie-Anoma is a redshirt senior Originally from Baltimore, Maryland. A 5 star recruit (247Sports) at St.Frances, ranked the top player in his state and 4th overall in the 2018 recruiting class. He has moved around a lot over his college career starting at Alabama, then transferring to Houston due to off-field issues. He did not see any action because of transfer eligibility, he was forced to transfer for more of the same problems. Arrived at UT-Martin in 2021, then transferring to Michigan as a grad student after finding a new found motivational factor. Putting together a solid season as a rotational pass rush specialist, he decided to transfer to Charlotte earning respect immediately being named team captain. He boasts a lanky build with good height, solid weight, good arm length, and poor hand size. He plays with solid AA, above-average initial quickness, solid lateral quickness, and solid ankle flexion. Primarily coming from a 2-point stance, he has very good footwork that allows him to get an excellent get-off at the snap. He gets north and south with zero evidence of a false step, wasting no time getting into his rush. Solid run defender, he displays good discipline on the backside of IZ/OZ, he is patient keying in on the mesh point and has above-average pursuit once a decision has been made. Above-average setting the edge, he understands how to use his arm length to create space for him to have effective hat position and vision on the ball carrier, often forcing runs into the teeth of the defense. Adequate pass-rush plan, majority of the time he is looking to convert his initial quickness into power at the POA by gaining access to the opponent’s chest with a quick double punch and extension with his inside hand. Good creating pressure when he has easy access, lacks counter moves with his hands to free himself up from an aggressive OT. Solid speed rush ability, he clearly has the tools to get upfield and use his ankle flexion to bend around the edge. Below-average UOH when in a position to clear himself and get into the backfield. Marginal in ET twist game, needs to be more physical to occupy the OL when he is asked to crash.
Scheme Fit:
EDGE in odd-front 2-gap scheme
Power Statement:
Okie-Anoma is a high motor player with a very impressive athletic profile. He has the tools to win consistently as a pass rusher and can affect the run game by creating penetration. It will be interesting to see how NFL scouts evaluate his character and past.
