Player Summary:
Transfer from University of Florida, 6-year letterman, 4-year starter who has played in 46 career games and has 41 starts under his belt. Has a Big/Tall frame with good stature and long arms. Has good get off, moves feet well to stay in front of DL. Does a good job at initiating contact when run blocking, uses good punch at point of impact coupled with good extension of arms to create space and drive defenders off balance. Displays good play speed in run blocking, reaches second level defenders and uses good leverage to create a wall for runners. Stays upright when pulling, does a good job establishing good hand placement, does not lose leverage once defender shifts or changes direction at point of attack. Does a good job vs DL that slides or stunts when he is zone blocking. Maintains inside leverage, trades off defender at point of attack, while moving feet to stay in front of defender. Has good play recognition, does not stay stationary, always looking for work and adjusting to post snap situations. Does a good job sliding over to assist on combo blocks. Has good play strength, good bend at point of attack, does not stand straight up, bends and sink hips well to control balance while maintaining leverage in pass pro. Does not do a good job at picking up delayed blitz, recognizes blitz late, reaches instead of keeping strong base, with lateral movement to maintain inside leverage on defender. Does not do well vs man blocking defenders that are athletic, coupled with a solid bull rush, solid use of hands, resulting QB exiting the pocket prematurely.
Scheme Fit:
Zone/Man Blocking with occasional pulling.
Power Statement:
A strong, versatile OL who can play both left and right guard. Has good hand placement to give QB time to throw and move in a clean pocket vs solid DL.
Assistant Director of Scouting for the Hula Bowl and long-time writer for NFL Draft Diamonds.
