Patriots fall to Miami Dolphins 31-17, what will New England do ahead of the Trade Deadline? Kendrick Bourne ACL Tear and does New England move forward?
Written by Karver Jordan
It was a rough game this week for New England. There is always room for improvement, but is there no hope for this team? The Patriots lost 31 – 17 to the Miami Dolphins and now the record is 2-6, the worst in the AFC. There were some positives from this game however New England suffered a lot of different types of losses in this matchup. Here are a few things that you should keep an eye on.
Offense plays okay, not great while Defense gets tired quickly
It is easy to say Mac Jones didn’t play well in this game, that is very true however he didn’t have much time to throw against the Miami Dolphins. The Pass rush of Miami made it tough on the Patriots, Mac Jones completed 19 of his 29 passes for 161 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Jones favorite target of the day was Kendrick Bourne, the veteran wideout had three receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown adding on to veteran wideouts, JuJu Smith-Schuster got his first touchdown as a Patriot. We need more from JuJu moving forward. The run game was nearly non-existent, both Rhamondre Stevenson and Ezekiel Elliott had struggles breaking off a big run. Stevenson finished with ten carries for 39 yards while Zeke finished with seven carries for 36 yards. Miami did a good job shutting down the rushing attack, the Offensive line needs to play better.
The Patriots defense played okay vs the Fastest team in the league, but were simply out scheme yet again by the Dolphins coaching staff. Tua Tagovailoa finished the day with 30 completions out of his 45 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns to his one interception. Tagovailoa ripped apart the banged up Patriots secondary. Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers were everywhere for New England, both of the safeties have proven they are some of the best in the league. Both safeties recorded five or more tackles, Dugger got an interception early in the game. Kyle Dugger also recorded a sack on Tua, it was a great play and New England should continue to use the safety like that.
Kendrick Bourne out for the season due to ACL Injury
Some very tough news for Kendrick Bourne and New England broke out Monday morning. Bourne, who got injured in the Miami Dolphins game suffered a ACL Tear, very tough. This may be the last time we see Kendrick Bourne in a Patriot Uniform, it was a contract year for the Veteran wideout.
How will New England move forward?
Well this season has been horrific, it is time to have the younger players step up. Tyquan Thornton, Kayshon Boutte, and DeMario “Pop” Douglas will all get bigger roles in this Patriots offense.
Patriots Trade deadline plans
Trade off some of the young/veteran talent for a return of draft picks/Positions of needs, Offensive tackle especially. One name to watch in the trade deadline is Josh Uche (OLB) the out linebacker who can pass rush and cover is most likely gone from New England by Tuesday the 31st of October. All Patriot moves will be covered at NFL Draft Diamonds: Karver Jordan. Check out his twitter for more information.
Karver’s Final Thoughts:
Bill Belichick is going to have to look at rebuilding options, this New England team is lacking multiple skills that other teams have. It is a tough world for New England, it is time to rebuild and reset.
