The New England Patriots roster is officially set for week one vs the Eagles. Coach Belichick has made a couple of moves on Thursday, one being signing Matt Corral to the active 53 man roster to play the backup QB role to Mac Jones. Belichick signed WR Jalen Reagor to the practice squad. Reagor joins a solid WR room and is expected to be a pregame move vs his former team the Eagles. Let’s take a look at the young careers of Matt Corral and Jalen Reagor.

Matt Corral is still unproven talent, the former Ole Miss QB has shown flashes on the NFL field a few times, we just haven’t seen the full potential of the young dual-threat QB. Corral was recently with the Carolina Panthers who just never gave him a fair shot. This preseason the 24 year old QB attempted 47 passes and only completed 28 of them (28-47) for 249 yards with an interception. Corral recorded a completion percentage of 59.6% and a QBR of 64.9. On a late Thursday afternoon a few days after the Carolina Panthers released the QB, Bill Belichick and the Patriots signed the young QB off of waivers.  New England has a new backup QB in Matt Corral, we will see how this goes.

Jalen Reagor has signed with the New England Patriots practice squad after the Minnesota Vikings released the WR. The Patriots have picked up a speedy WR/PR who hasn’t gotten a fair shot in the NFL. The Eagles drafted Reagor with the 21st pick in the 2020 draft, the pick didn’t turn out very well for the Eagles. The 24 year old WR got traded to the Vikings and would have a pretty solid season when given the chance. In the 2022 season the speedy wideout had eight receptions out of the 13 passes thrown his way, Reagor had 104 yards with a touchdown. The former first round pick can also play punt returner, the 5-foot-11 197 pound WR had 26 returns for 167 yards however, nearly half of the returns were fair caught. Bill Belichick and the Patriots are giving the “Struggling” Another chance to prove himself in the NFL either that being at kick/punt returner or as a wide receiver maybe even both. We will see how the young talented player proves himself in the New England scheme.

Karver’s final thoughts:

The New England Patriots have signed two young unproven talents who are still looking for a fair chance in the NFL. I think Matt Corral will be used in many different ways for example in running options, Corral is a very athletic QB who is a tough runner with the ball. Expect Belichick and O’Brien to use that to their advantage.

Jalen Reagor could turn out to be a pretty solid signing for the Patriots, a young Wide Receiver who has “Struggled” to play at NFL level. Belichick will find a way to use Jalen Reagor in the Patriots offensive schemes and maybe a little bit on the special teams aspect. Use. The. Speed. Reagor has great speed and could be used in many different ways in this New England offense.
