Pittman’s Pocket: HBCU Players that stood out in week 1 of College Football

Howard’s Eden James had a phenomenal game against FBS competition in Eastern Michigan rushing for 96 yards, on 9 carries. He finished with 10.7 yards per carry, which was super impressive. The Sophomore had an early exit due to injury, but looks good for Howard.
Also Howards Casey Hawthorne #3 performed well for the Bison with 3 receptions and 37 yards with a touchdown reception. Hawthorne also added 7 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Grambling State’s Lyndon Rash is a 6’0 wide out that had a great game against Hampton. He finished with8 receptions for 90 yards, averaging 11.2 yards per catch, and a touchdown.
Grambling State QB Myles Crawley had a pretty solid game as well going 25/38 for 311 yards and 2 touchdowns. That Manning Camp invite improved his stock.
Tuskegee Wideout Antonio Meeks had a dominating game, hauling in 6 receptions for 149 yards and one touchdown. His longest reception was for 44 yards, defeating the HBCU Division 2 runner up for the National Championship Game in HBCU, Fort Valley State in a nail biter.
Virgina State defeated Norfolk State in a bizarre twist, but besides that, Upton Bailey #1 rushed 18 times for 184 yards and 1 TD.
