Week 1 FBS Top Performers | Presented by the Hula Bowl

The Hula Bowl will be played in Orlando, Florida on January 13th, 2024 and is televised on CBS Sports. The staff at NFL Draft Diamonds has worked for the past three years as the scouting staff for the Hula Bowl, and we are excited to get the 2023-24 season underway. With tons of great football games in the NCAA this week, we wanted to break down several of the Top Performers in the FBS that would have eligibility to play in our game. We are definitely watching, and had scouts at 20 games this week around the country. Let’s break down some of the best performances from week 1.
Clayton Isbell, S, Coastal Carolina – The former FCS transfer is a 6’2 safety from Saint Charles, Illinois that had a monster game against UCLA. He finished the game with 9 tackles, and three interceptions for the Chanticleers. The Super Senior had a great game in week 1, and was one of our Top Performers.
Korie Black, DB, Oklahoma State – Special Teams are very important in the NFL, and Korie Black was a menace for the Cowboys special teams unit this past week. He blocked two field kicks this past weekend against Central Arkansas. We have had two former Oklahoma State defensive backs play in the Hula Bowl and both are in the NFL right now! Tanner McCallister and Christian Holmes played in the Hula Bowl.
Emory Jones, QB, Cincinnati – The former Florida Gators quarterback had a great game for the Bearcats. He went 19/23 for 345 passing yards and 5 touchdowns. Emory looked like a polished quarterback and had a great week 1 performance.
Chez Mellusi, RB, Wisconsin – The Badgers running back looked like a machine against the Buffalo Bulls. Mellusi ripped a long run for a touchdown and finished the game with 157 yards, and two touchdowns on just 13 carries. He was super impressive and helped the Badgers get the first win of the year.
Xavier Leggette, WR, South Carolina – With Juice Wells going down with an injury someone had to step up and the senior wide out had a great game against a very strong UNC Tarheels defense. Legette finished with 9 receptions for 178 yards. The 6’3 wide out looked great for the Gamecocks.
Benjamin Yurosek, TE, Stanford – The 6’4, 242 pound tight end from Bakersfield, California had a great first week against Hawaii hauling in 9 receptions for 138 yards and 1 touchdown. The Stanford tight end is smooth when running his routes, and looks like an NFL caliber tight end.
Kaimon Rucker, LB, North Carolina – The Jack linebacker is a big boy and was making Spencer Rattler’s life miserable in the pocket. Rucker finished with 5.5 tackles for loss in his first game as a senior. His final statline was 8 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. In just one game he needs just 2 more tackles for loss to break his 2022 total numbers.
