Player Summary:
A 3-year letterman, a 3-year starter who has played in 27 career games and has 24 starts under his belt. He is a tall, lean athletic Corner. Displays good ability opening hips up, and solid COD ability which reflects his trail technique well vs. solid wide receivers and reading hips and keeping runners close. Aggressive DB who relies on hands to assist with rerouting wide receiver at POA. Uses leverage to deny wide receivers from stacking on fly-and-go routes. Has good play recognition, avoids and beats blocking OL off the edge when in run support. Solid competitive toughness, not afraid to stick helmet in run lanes, fights through traffic in man to break up play on pick/rub routes to maintain leverage. Gains depth quickly in coverage 3 and 4. Plays the ball well, does get turned around easily vs. solid Wide receivers, breaks on the ball fast, and defends the ball with aggressive play speed once the ball is in the air. Has good play recognition, displays the ability to leverage himself into position to eliminate stem, and has the ability to close space on the wide receiver and reduce wide receiver catch radius. Does not do well in the open field vs. shifty RBs, and has a tendency to not sink hips and come square or come to balance when engaging a runner at POA, which causes him to lunge at the runner and miss tackles due to not wrapping up. He does struggle to flip his hips and break on the ball. Does not display good play strength in RZ, and gets blocked too easily vs. bigger physical wide receivers who take pride in blocking leading to the inability to shed blocks at POA.
Scheme Fit:
4-3 Defense, can be tasked as an in-the-box defender for run support and play man coverage. Also fits well in Cover 1, Cover 2, and Cover 3 and 4.
Power Statement:
An aggressive DB that is physical and has the ability to frustrate solid receivers at POA, coupled with the AA to cover in space and constrict run lanes.
