2023 Jacksonville Jaguars Training Camp Outlook

Written By: Tristan Schaar
Football is finally back and the Jacksonville Jaguars opened training camp to the public this week at the new Miller Electric Center. As an aspiring NFL journalist and incoming communications major at the University of North Florida, I packed my bag and headed out to the new $125M state of the art facility to see how the Jags are looking going into the much anticipated 2023 NFL Season.
Training Camp Day 3 Takeaways
Trevor Lawrence (QB):
The franchise quarterback had a few ups and downs today under center. Lawrence made plenty of good throws in the team’s 7v7 and 11v11 drills throwing multiple TDs but did struggle on a few red zone passes overthrowing his receivers twice in the endzone. Of course, this is nothing to worry about and can be cleaned up with ease but is something to note after today’s practice.

Calvin Ridley (WR):
I could talk all day about how impressive “Agent 0” was at camp… the footwork, route running, and TD tacked on in the 11v11 drill were just a few electrifying moments in his Day 3 session. However, the one thing that caught my eye was just how involved the new wideout is with his teammates. After every passing play that Ridley was incorporated in no matter if he was targeted or not, he made sure to go out of his way to hype up his fellow receivers after a nice play or give them words of encouragement when it didn’t go their way. Ridley’s leadership skills are just what the Jaguars need going into the season.
Devin Lloyd (LB):
Based off of today’s practice Devin Lloyd looks to be the one who will complement the NFL’s reigning leading tackler Foye Oloukun at linebacker. Lloyd, being a first-round pick in 2022 has shown tremendous progress from last season and could be in line for a breakout year in 2023.
Further Camp Observations:
- Zay Jones (WR) was seen on the field the most during 7v7 and 11v11 drills outta the top 3 receivers (Ridley, Kirk, and Zay) on the depth chart.
- Tank Bigsby (RB, Rookie) has seen a lot in the receiving end of the backfield.
- Evan Engram (TE) had a bounceback practice today which included a ridiculous one-handed grab after tallying two drops in yesterday’s session.
- Gerrit Prince (TE) recorded two touchdowns in offense vs defense drills.
- Antonio Johnson (Safety, Rookie) was a part of some quality plays in the second-team drills.
