What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I wanted to be a football player since I was young. My dad would show me his tapes from high school when I was a kid and it was something I always had interest in either playing in the backyard when I was a kid or starting into leagues at a young age I knew it was something I was passionate about and been blessed to still be playing today.
What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?
This last season I’m looking forward to making a run at the national championship. It’s a goal that we have set for our team and I’m excited to see what changes we are going to make to take that final leap to get us there.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
For me it’s impossible to pick one. It’s my mom and dad. My dad has pushed me and done everything he could to put me where I’m at. Paying to travel and participate in camps through high school, help me through college, work long hours at multiple times a week all while being the best father figure I could ask for. My mom has always been strength. Watching her beat cancer and not lose touch of who she is during it was inspiring. She’s always been there for me regardless and provides a lot of love which I can’t say enough about for that. Couldn’t thank my parents enough for what they’ve done for me and they are by far the most inspiring people in my life.
What are your favorite things about playing football for Slippery Rock?
A lot of great things come from playing at Slippery Rock. My favorite has to be the family setting that we have on the team between players and coaches. There isn’t a single person on our team that feels left out we all talk to each other and bond. The coaches are great to have an off field relationship with as well but when it’s time for us to game plan and get ready we lock in. Another has to be the area and support we get. The town loves its football team and it’s super cool to see the amount of people we get at our games and how excited they are for us. There isn’t another team in the country that I would rather play for every Saturday.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
Santonio Holmes. Growing up as a Pittsburgh Steeler fan he was my favorite receiver to watch. Couldn’t tell you how many times I tried to create his catch in the Super Bowl and he is ultimately the one that made me want to play wideout and wear number 10 up until college.
What is your favorite offensive scheme and why?
Favorite scheme has to be empty. Get defenses spread out and get your playmakers the ball. Something I hope that we do a lot this year because the amount of guys we have to be in that opportunity.
What should we know about Kyle Sheets the person?
I’m a person that’s going to give you everything that I have at the end of the day and do what’s right because of the fear of being unsuccessful but outside of the football field. I would say I’m pretty fun to be around and I am going try to make you laugh. A large part of me is everyone that’s impacted my life and roots for me which in turn gives me a lot of motivation to make them proud.
What stands out about your film the most?
When you watch my film you’ll see someone that’s 6’4 215 and can move. I’m a physical deep threat that comes down with the ball almost every time. Physical on the perimeter that loves his teammates.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
I’ve learned that football translates very well with real life situations. I’ve taken the lessons I’ve learned from football and applied them. Adversity comes but with hard work, patience, and time the right path will open up for you. Challenges are inevitable it’s just how you’re going to attack them.
What would a team get in a player like you?
The team that takes the chance on me is going to get a kid working to achieve his dream. I’m going to be someone that’s gonna commit everything he has to that team and the opportunity I earned. Someone that will play at any position that can help the team win games. They’ll also be getting a playmaker that loves the game and the grind and someone that isn’t going to be satisfied. I’ll make the most out of the opportunity in front of me.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I love football because of the family setting bringing people into my life I might not have gotten a chance to cross paths with. The game also brings passion and commitment with the touch a physicality that you don’t find in other sports as much as others and that’s great. The game opens up and is an escape for me.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
The most underrated player would have to be Henry Litwin. Easily the best in game player I’ve ever watched. One of the best to come out of Slippery Rock and had a chance with the Bears but with the right opportunity would shine in the league.
