What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I’ve been playing since I was six and this has been my only passion in my life.
What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?
As a team our goals are PSAC west champ, PSAC champs and National champions. Personally I want to lead the nation in both kick return and punt return while being one of the nations top receivers.
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
My mother and my older brother. My brother Kurt is my father figure he was the main male role model in my life and I’ve seen how he changed his life for the better and I want to do the same thing. My mother inspires me because she raised three kids on her own while sometimes having to work 2 jobs to pay bills and make sure we had all the things we wanted in life. She always made sure her kids were good before she was.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
My senior year the half day practices in high school. It was fun playing ball all day with my boys knowing it was our last year together.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?
Tyreek Hill because that’s the player I try to model my game after.
What do you love the most about the game of football?
I don’t have one specific reason to why I love football but this was the first sport I played and I felt my love with the game right away.
What should we know about Cohen Russell the person?
I’m hard working and extremely motivated to accomplish my goals.
What are your favorite things about playing football for Slippery Rock?
The family atmosphere. When I transferred back from Lackawanna it felt like nothing changed everyone on the team welcomed me with open arms. This is the only team I’ve been apart of that really focused on making sure we look out for each other like a real family would.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
Whenever I’m going through a challenging moment in my life I like to talk to my mom and get her opinion on the situation and how I should handle it. Any challenges I have on the field I go to my offensive coaches and pick there brains on what they would do in this situation because they’ve all been in the same situations I’ve been in.
What would a team get in a player like you?
I’m a difference maker with the ball in my hand. Not just at receiver but I’m also very dangerous in the return game both kick and punt return.
What stands out about your film the most?
My speed, I am legit 4.3 speed.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Shane Schuback, he was one of the linebackers from my freshman year and I’ve never seen someone come down hill like him and fly sideline to sideline the way he did.
