What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

My parents always had me around sports growing up. I always wanted to strive and be as good if not better than my father Brandon Kight. I also wanted to go out and be apart of something bigger than myself.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

My favorite moment is little league where I was able to play defense for the first time and hit someone instead of being hit! I also will never forget my first college interception in the fourth quarter against Trinity International my sophomore season.

Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?

I would say my brothers inspire me the most. Always supporting me and my goals. I’ve grown up as the oldest child in my family with five siblings so I’ve had to set the right example for them.

What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?

I’m looking forward to working towards a conference championship with my team. I also can’t wait to apply the FBI(Football Intelligence) I gained over the off-season.

If you could hang out with any football team past or present for a day who and why?

I would hangout with the 1995 Miami Hurricanes football team. The team was player lead by Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Multiple hall of fame guys and 20 guys that made it to the league. The entire defense always had 11 hats flying to the ball.

What are your favorite things about playing football for Missouri Baptist?

First, the family atmosphere on and off the field. I’ve met some lifelong friends Joe King, Josh Munn, Ray Ramsey and so many others who have inspired me to be my best. The coaching staff also allows us to be a player led team. I enjoy our open door policy with our coaches as well. I’m able to increase my football intelligence daily with my head coach Jason Burianek and linebacker coach Zack Kern.

What should we know about Blake Kight the person?

I’m a real person that’s going to shoot you straight. I love this game with everything in my being. God made me for this game and blessed me with a drive and heart. I’ve been grinding for this game every day of my life since sixth grade. I am also a personal trainer and linebacker coach in the STL area. As a person I want what’s best for my teammates and friends. My favorite part of playing middle linebacker is setting my teammates up to make plays.

What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?

My favorite defensive scheme is a 4-2-5. I let my defensive lineman dominate the line of scrimmage with a two way go and I clean up everything over the top with my money backer (Will). I also have my strong safety over the top running the alley. It allows us to stack the box and bring pressure. Cover 4 is my favorite coverage out of 4-2-5 because it is a simple man-match coverage. I drop off my number three post them off the seam to my safety and match any crossers across the middle. The weakness in cover 4 is underneath routes but everyone can rally to the short routes in the no cover zone(5 yards). The best thing about this scheme is if everyone does their job it’s lockdown across the board.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

First, I go to God and lean on him. Every challenge happens for a reason so you can either grow through it or let it break you. Through every injury playing football I’ve been able to grow and see the positives in it. I just stay positive and put my head down and work.

What would a team get in a player like you?

A guy that shows up to work everyday and puts the team first. A leader on and off the field. A player that always wants to learn and grow from fellow teammates and coaches. Lastly, someone willing to fill any position to help the team.

What stands out about your film the most?

I’m around the ball every play. You can tell that I’m good at breaking down formations by the way I can read my keys then fly to the ball. I also have excellent closing speed and am physical at the point of attack.

Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?

The most underrated player I have played with is Joe King, he leaves everything on the field every game. One hundred and sixty pounds and hits like he’s 220lbs. A few seasons ago he had 4 interceptions in one game against St. Francis University. Undersized but has that dog in him.
