Demetrius Antwan Davis Jr. the former UAB football player was just 25 years old. He had a bright future, that we will never see lived out because a coward ambushed the former football star and killed him at a Circle K gas station in Birmingham.

Police were called to the Circle K located at 1700 Tallapoosa Street around 6 p.m. on Sunday where they found Davis unresponsive lying in the parking lot.

Video showed the victim was approached by an unknown suspect who they say opened fire on him.

A suspect by the name of Byron Dedric Steele has been arrested by the Birmingham Police Department in the death of Davis Jr. and is facing capital murder charges.

Davis was a three-star prospect according to 247sports.com, Davis prepped at Huffman High School in Birmingham, Alabama where he played for coach Alex Wilson. He compiled 1,200 rushing yards, 700 receiving yards, and 21 total touchdowns during his junior season.

Davis chose his hometown UAB Blazers over Mississippi State, Memphis and Indiana.

Davis Jr. is the son of Cynthia Williams, and is survived by his two brothers, Dearrius Nelson and Daequan Williams.
